Membership Application Process


Thank you for considering membership in the Miles River Yacht Club. Founded in 1920, the MRYC is a popular destination for power and sail boats exploring the Chesapeake Bay and Miles River, with a dynamic organization of members dedicated to boating fun—both sail and power. Don’t own a boat? No problem. MRYC is a great place to make new friends and socialize at any of the many events held at the Club. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
  1. To start, please contact membership@milesriveryc.com to request a membership application. Complete the application and either scan/email it back or send it to the address below along with the initiation fee. You may send a check or arrange with our business office to use a credit card for the initiation fee. 
  2. The completed application can be sent to:

  3. After the application is received, the applicant(s) will be contacted to schedule an informal interview at the Club with their sponsor and one or more members of the Membership Committee. Interviews are held on Saturday (4pm – 6pm) by appointment. We can work with your schedule if our interview time doesn’t work for you. We want to get to know you and give you the opportunity to ask us anything about the club. Of course, if you forget anything during the interview we ask that you don’t hesitate to contact us. We want the application process and then membership at MRYC to be pleasant and fulfilling for you.
  4. Your application must be signed by two sponsors who have been MRYC members in good standing for a minimum of six months. If you are new to the area and don’t know MRYC members, please let us know and we will help you with sponsorship. 
  5. Applicants for membership to the Club shall not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, age, ancestry, national origin, sex, political affiliation, sexual orientation, disability or any other grounds prohibited by law. 
  6. After the interview and required posting, the application will be forwarded to the Board of Governors for approval. The Board of Governors meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month. 
  7. When a membership application is approved by the Board of Governors, the new member(s) will be notified in writing and will receive a membership packet containing the Club By-Laws, a Membership Directory, Membership Card(s), and MRYC parking stickers. 
  8. MRYC name badges will be distributed to new members.
  9. New members and their sponsors will be invited to a reception immediately preceding the next quarterly member meeting (1st Friday Dec, Mar, Jun, and Sept). This is a wonderful time to meet the officers and fellow members.
